COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER (CHW) TRAINING PROGRAM
Community Health Workers, or CHWs, promote health within a community by assisting individuals to adopt healthy behaviors, serving as an advocate for the health needs of individuals, and acting as liaison or advocate and implement programs that promote, maintain, and improve individual and overall community health. Virginia AHEC utilizes the VHWDA CHW Training Program online learning modules in conjunction with in-person training and shadowing at the Regional AHEC host sites to prepare individuals to become Certified Community Health Workers. Individuals enrolled in this program complete 80 hours of online course work and 50 hours of supervised experiential learning. Completion of this program prepares individuals to begin work as a CHW. More information about the Community Health Worker Program can be found on the VHWDA website.
